If you intend to be married in New York State you must both apply in person for a marriage license. A marriage license can be purchased from any Town or City Clerk's Office.

Fee: $40.00 (includes your marriage certificate)
Waiting Period: 24 hours from the time the license is issued.
Expires: 60 days, beginning the day after license is issued.
Required Documentation: Birth Certificate; picture identification; copies of ALL divorce decrees, or death certificate if marriage ended by death.

You will receive only one Marriage Certificate that will be mailed to you after the official performing the marriage returns the license to our office. If the Marriage Certificate is lost or you need an extra copy, you may purchase a Marriage Transcript.

The cost of a certified marriage transcript is $10. You must obtain a transcript where you purchased your marriage license, not necessarily the town or city you were married in.
