Marriage License

Marriage Licenses will be issued by appointment only.  Appointments typically take 30 minutes and can be scheduled Monday through Thursday between the hours of 8:30am and 3:00pm and Fridays between 8:30 and 11:00am. Please call 607-533-4142 to schedule an appointment.

If you will be married in New York State, you must obtain a marriage license from any town or city clerk office in New York State.  Both parties must be 18 years old or older and present when applying for the license. 

  • Fee: $40.00 (includes your marriage certificate) We accept cash, checks, or credit cards ($1.75 service fee applies with credit card payments).
  • Waiting Period: 24 hours from the time the license is issued.
  • Expires: 60 days, beginning the day after license is issued.
  • Required Documentation: Birth Certificate; valid photo identification; copies of ALL divorce decrees, or death certificate if marriage ended by death.
    • All copies of divorce papers must include the first page and the signature page of divorce or annulment papers, showing that the divorce papers were signed by a judge and filed in the appropriate office.
    • If your documents are written in a language other than English, you are required to have them translated into English.  If the translated document in not created by an official agency, the translator must certify that it is a true and accurate translation of the document, and have that statement notarized.

Below you will find a sample marriage license form you can print ahead of time, prepare, and bring with you to our office. 

After the officiant performs the marriage and the license is returned to our office, you will receive one copy of the Marriage Certificate via mail. If the Marriage Certificate is lost or you need an extra copy, you may purchase an official Marriage Transcript.

Marriage Transcript

The cost of a certified marriage transcript is $10. You must obtain a transcript where you purchased your marriage license, not necessarily the town or city you were married in.

One Day Officiant License

New York now allows for people to purchase a one day marriage officiant license authorizing them to solemnize a single marriage.  This application is only valid for the parties listed and must be purchased from same clerk the couple purchased their marriage license from.  It expires upon the completion of the marriage or the expiration of the marriage license.

The fee is $25 for a one day officiant license.  A one day marriage officiant must be 18 years of age and does not have to be a resident of the Town.  A valid photo identification is required to purchase the license.
